Spread the news

It’s surprising and unfortunate just how little publicity this election has received. NewsGuild headquarters organized it late and kept it mostly hidden from members. Last week, I had to ask headquarters to put some basic information about the election on the homepage of newsguild.org. It’s shameful that the current International leadership of our union lacks fundamental communication skills and fails to share information, especially on such important matters as electing a president to a four-year term.

Improving communications with our 20,000 of so members is one of many reasons I’m running for president. A union that represents journalists and other media workers must be an innovator, not a laggard, in the use of cutting-edge communications tools.

Mail ballots are set to go out this week to members in the United States and Canada. At some locations, the voting will be done in person in mid-April. If you know anyone at a NewsGuild shop please tell them about the election and about my candidacy.

I’ve been on the campaign trail meeting members in St. Louis, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Chicago, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. I have more trips planned. I’m using my vacation time, dipping into my savings and raising money to support the campaign. It’s a very expensive undertaking. If you can, please donate today

I’m very grateful to note that all donations will be doubled – matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000 by a generous supporter who believes in our mission to build a modern and forward-looking NewsGuild that better serves our members and grows our numbers.

Thank you!
Jon
